Hello, my name is Laura Jennings and I am the English language assistant at BGN this year. I come from the UK, specifically a small town west of London called Maidenhead. It is on the river Thames and the surrounding countryside is typically English – understated but beautiful. I have just spent the last four years studying Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Oxford and I graduated last July with a BA (Bachelor of Arts degree) in French and German. I am now spending a year in Salzburg to improve my spoken German and learn more about Austrian culture. I go swimming regularly, I take part in a ballet class and I also sing in the school choir, which is lots of fun. I am also taking advantage of Salzburg’s proximity to the mountains and going skiing as often as my salary will allow…! Next year, I am going back to Britain to do a Masters degree in Translation at Durham University and my long-term goal is to become a translator. It is a pleasure teaching at BGN because all the students are so eager to learn more about British culture. I have received lots of lovely tips from the students about what to eat and which places to visit, so I still have a long list of things to do between now and the end of my placement. I shall be sorry to move on at the end of this year! (Text und Foto: Laura Jennings)
